Terms of Service
The agreement between you and us when you use Mashi.
Last updated:
1. Who these terms are with
Mashi is operated by Momken Egyptian Arabic (“we”, “us”), based in Egypt and reachable at support@mashiapp.pro. By creating an account or using the app you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use Mashi through a teacher or an organization, these terms still apply to you personally.
2. Your account
- You need an account to learn. You can sign up with an email address, with Apple, or with Google.
- You are responsible for keeping your login details secure. One account is for one person.
- You must be 13 or older to create an account yourself. Younger learners may use Mashi with an account created and supervised by a parent, guardian or teacher, who accepts these terms on their behalf.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. See section 15 for what that does.
3. What’s free and what isn’t
The first three lessons (the first section, with its section quiz) of the level you choose when you sign up are free, with their native audio, quizzes, two practice sessions a day, streak, badges, missions and the weekly Felucca Race. The free lessons stay with the level chosen at sign-up. Mashi Pro unlocks every lesson in all four levels, unlimited practice, offline audio for every level, and 200 translations a day (free accounts get 15).
Free allowances, the content of each plan and the features of the app may change. If we remove something significant that you are paying for, we will tell you before your next renewal.
4. Subscriptions, trials and renewals
- Pro is sold as a yearly or monthly auto-renewing subscription, billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, whichever you bought from. That store’s terms apply to the transaction and it is the merchant of record.
- Both plans start with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, it converts to a paid subscription.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
- Prices are set per territory in your local currency. The price shown in the app before you confirm is the price your store charges. In the US, Pro is $89.99 a year or $14.99 a month at the date above.
- If a renewal payment fails, the store retries it; you may keep access for a short grace period while it does, depending on the store’s rules.
5. Cancelling and refunds
Cancel any time in the store you bought from — both Apple and Google require cancellation to happen there rather than in the app. Cancelling does not end your access immediately: you keep Pro until the period you have already paid for ends.
Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their own policies, because they are the merchant. We cannot issue a store refund ourselves, but tell us if something went wrong and we will help.
6. Referral codes and the free month or week
- A teacher on Mashi has a referral code. If you enter it before you subscribe, you pay the normal price with the normal trial, and after your first paid charge your subscription is extended by 30 days on the yearly plan, or 7 days on the monthly plan, at no cost — the store moves your next renewal date.
- One code per person, applied once, on your first paid charge only. It cannot be applied to a subscription that already exists, during a trial, or to a lapsed one.
- The extension is applied through the store’s own subscription tools. Apple may notify you of it by email, and limits how many such extensions an account can receive in a year.
- If the charge that earned the extension is refunded or reversed, the extension may be withdrawn and the referral no longer counts.
7. Teachers and referral commission
- Anyone who chooses the teacher role gets a join code, classes, assignments, announcements and reports. Students join by entering your code or opening your invite link, and you must approve them. Only approve people you are entitled to teach.
- A student has one teacher at a time. A student may leave their teacher, and a teacher may remove a student, at any time; the other side is notified.
- Anything a teacher writes — a class name, an assignment title, an announcement, a chat message — is the teacher’s responsibility and must not be unlawful, offensive, or infringe anyone’s rights. We may remove content that breaks this rule. Chats with students follow section 10.
- Commission. When a learner who entered your referral code makes a paid subscription charge, you earn 10% of the gross price of that charge, and of every renewal they make while they stay subscribed. Trials earn nothing until they convert.
- Earnings are totalled by calendar month (UTC). Once a month closes you can request a payout in the app. We pay by bank transfer, InstaPay, Vodafone Cash, PayPal or another method we agree, to the details you provide, normally within the following month. There is no minimum. A payout can be requested once per month. Questions about commission or payouts go to partners@mashiapp.pro.
- If a charge you earned commission on is refunded or reversed, the commission is reversed too and deducted from your next payout.
- You may not refer yourself, buy subscriptions with your own code, or pay people to enter it. We may withhold commission earned in breach of this section, and close accounts that abuse it.
- You are responsible for any tax on commission you receive. We may change the commission rate for future subscriptions with 30 days’ notice; existing referrals keep the rate they were earned at.
8. Organizations
- Anyone can create an organization (a company, school, club or other group) by choosing the organization option at sign-up. It is inactive until we agree a plan with the person who created it (the “owner”) and its first invoice is paid. The owner’s account runs the organization and does not itself take a seat.
- A plan is a number of seats for a term of one year or six months, at a price we agree in writing, paid by invoice outside the app. Adding seats mid-term is invoiced for the remainder of the term. The renewal invoice is issued about 30 days before the term ends.
- Invoices and how to pay. Invoices appear in the owner portal. Each one shows how to pay it (for example bank transfer or InstaPay) and the reference to use, normally the invoice number. Payment instructions come only from us: in the portal, in the organization’s chat with the Mashi team, or from partners@mashiapp.pro. If you receive payment details from anywhere else, do not pay; check with us first. A payment counts once we have matched it to the invoice.
- Members join with the organization’s code and must be approved by the organization account. Approved members have Pro while the plan is paid up, plus a seven-day grace period after it expires. Removing a member, or the plan lapsing, ends their Pro on the next check; their own account and progress are unaffected, and any personal subscription they hold is untouched.
- The organization sees seat use, requests, members and invoices, and each member’s profile (name, email, age group and why they learn) and progress, including quiz scores. Members are shown this before they ask to join. It does not see members’ chats, translations or saved words.
- Invoices are due on the date they state. Unpaid plans lapse after the grace period and are reactivated when paid. Amounts already paid are not refundable for seats left unused.
- The owner is responsible for the organization’s details being accurate and for only approving people it is entitled to cover. The organization is run from one organization account, which takes no seat. To hand it to someone else at the organization, ask us to change its login email; we check the request with the organization first. Organization questions go to the organization’s chat with the Mashi team (the in-app Inbox) or partners@mashiapp.pro. That chat belongs to the organization: whoever is the owner can read all of it, and every member of the Mashi team can read and answer it.
9. Acceptable use
Don’t attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer or scrape the service; don’t use it to harass anyone; don’t try to access accounts or data that aren’t yours; and don’t use Speak & Translate to generate abusive material.
10. Messages and chats
A student can chat with their own teacher, and a teacher with their own students, while the student is in one of the teacher’s classes or is their private student. Anyone can chat with the Mashi team, and an organization owner chats with us about the organization. When a student leaves a teacher or is removed, the chat becomes read-only. When you write in a chat:
- Be respectful. Keep to learning, classes and the help you need. No insults, threats, bullying, sexual content, hate, or anything unlawful.
- No harassment. If someone asks you to stop, stop. Don’t try to reach someone who has blocked you some other way.
- No personal contact details in student and teacher chats. Don’t share or ask for phone numbers, email addresses, social media or messaging accounts, home addresses or meeting places, and don’t try to move the conversation off Mashi. This protects students, many of whom are young. (In a chat with the Mashi team you may share contact or payment information when it is needed to help you.)
- No spam. No advertising, chain messages, repeated messages or links to other services. To keep chats usable we limit how many messages can be sent in a short time and how long a message can be (500 characters).
- Don’t pretend to be someone else, including the Mashi team.
What you write is your responsibility. Chats are text only. Our Privacy Policy explains who can read chats, what the notifications show and how long messages are kept.
11. Reports and moderation
We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. By using chats you agree to the rules in section 10 and to how we enforce them:
- Filter. Messages in student and teacher chats pass through an automatic filter that hides phone numbers, email addresses, links and offensive words before the message is saved. The filter can miss things and can hide things by mistake; it does not make breaking these rules acceptable.
- Report and block. In a student and teacher chat you can report the conversation or block the other person from the chat menu. The other person is not told about a report. You can also email support@mashiapp.pro.
- Review. The Mashi team reviews reported chats. To do that it may read the reported conversation; it does not read student and teacher chats that nobody has reported.
- What we may do. If we decide that content or behaviour breaks these terms, we may, without notice: hide a message, close a chat so nobody can write in it, warn a user, suspend an account, or delete an account. We may also remove other content that breaks these terms and, where the law requires it, pass information to the authorities.
- We act on reports as fairly and quickly as we can, but we cannot check every message, and we are not responsible for what other users write.
12. Invite links and codes
- Teachers and organizations can share a code or an invite link on mashiapp.pro (addresses starting mashiapp.pro/join/, plus mashiapp.pro/r for a teacher’s referral code and mashiapp.pro/get). If Mashi is installed, the link opens the app with the code filled in; if not, the page shows the code and the store buttons.
- A link only fills in the code. Joining still needs the approval described above (the teacher, or the organization account), and a referral code works only as described in section 6.
- Share your links only with people you mean to invite. Don’t post them where strangers will use them, and don’t use them to spam. If a code is being misused, tell us and we can help.
- Links on other addresses that claim to be Mashi invites are not ours.
13. Our content, and yours
The curriculum, the audio recordings, the software, Sobek and the Mashi name and branding belong to us or our licensors. Your subscription is a personal licence to use them inside the app; it doesn’t transfer ownership and doesn’t allow copying or redistributing the recordings or course material.
What you write in the app — class names, chat messages, bug reports, translations — stays yours. You give us permission to store and display it as the feature requires (a chat message is shown to the other person in the conversation, including after you delete your account), to review it when it is reported, and to use bug reports to fix bugs.
14. Availability
We aim to keep Mashi running but don’t promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Offline audio depends on your device having space and having been online recently. Translations are produced by an AI model and can be wrong; check anything important with a person.
15. Ending things
You can stop using Mashi and delete your account whenever you like. Deletion removes your account and its data immediately, as described in the Privacy Policy; it does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription, which you must cancel in that store, and it does not cancel an organization plan, which continues for the other members. An organization account cannot be deleted while the organization has members: ask us to close the organization first. Chat messages you already sent stay in the other person’s conversation, shown as from a “Deleted account” without your name.
We may suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms (see section 11), and we’ll tell you why unless we are legally prevented from doing so. A suspended account sees a notice when it signs in and can contact support@mashiapp.pro. Commission legitimately earned before closure is still paid.
16. Liability
Mashi is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, for loss of data caused by your device, for anything a teacher or organization does with the access you gave them, for what another user writes to you, or for decisions you make on the basis of a translation. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract, or our liability for anything the law does not allow us to exclude.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the country in which we are established, and disputes are heard by its courts, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection you enjoy where you live.
18. Apple-specific terms
If you got the app from the App Store: these terms are between you and us, not Apple; Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app; if the app fails to conform to a warranty you may tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, and Apple has no other warranty obligation; we, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app or its content, including product liability, legal or regulatory claims, and intellectual property claims; you confirm you are not in a country under a US government embargo and are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties; and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
19. Changes
If we change these terms we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant. Continuing to use Mashi after that means you accept the new terms.
